Symbols On The Baptistry Ceiling
| The Three Fish Forming the Triangle |
| |
|

|
| |
| This is a representation of the Holy Trinity.
Although this is not one of the customary symbols of the Three Persons in
One God, it is often used in Baptistries in keeping with the predominate
theme of water. Through Baptism, God the Farther adopts us as His
children by giving us a share of His own Life, Grace, and in our souls.
God the Son earned this Grace for us upon the Cross. We are united
to Him in His death and resurrection, for as St. Paul teaches, we die with
Christ by being "drowned" in the water of Baptism, and we rise with Him as
we emerge from these waters a "new man", a "new creation." As in
Genesis, the Spirit of God hovered over the abyss, so too in this "new
creation" the Holy Spirit is at work. |
