Religion:  This week we will take a good look at the “Our Father”. The class will learn that this prayer was to inspire people to become followers of God’s and believe in His teachings.

Second Steps:  During SS this week the students will see that feelings about situations can change.  Ex:  When a child starts school they maybe hesitant to come in their classroom.  As the year goes on and they become comfortable they are eager to get to school.

Reading:  We are going to be concentrating on the endings of the two stories that have been the main focus of our first unit in the reading series.  The students will be discussing how the friendships were effected at the end of “Stelluna and Dragons and Monsters.”  As these stories are discussed the students will think about the author’s message and what they learned from it.

Spelling/ Grammar:  Our spelling words this week contain the double l blend.  The students will see that this blend is either in the middle of the word or at the end.  Our words this week are from, they run, ox, there, doll, windmill, bell, skull, will.  As the students work with these words they will also review all the forms of nouns (common, proper, and pro.)

Writing:   This week the students will be introduced to narrative writing.  They will begin their narrative stories by drawing pictures of events that happen at the beginning, middle and end of “Dragons and Monsters.”   Next they will write a sentence that goes along with each picture.  Finally the students will edit their stories by checking to see they included the five requirements for a complete sentence    1. Starts with a capital letter. 2. subject/ noun. 3. verb  4. ending mark  5.  makes sense.

Math:  The class will begin the fourth chapter in our GoMath series.  They will begin by review subtraction terms and counting back 1, 2, and 3 to solve simple subtraction problems.  Towards the end of the week the class will see that by using the same 3 number they are able to create 4 math problems 2 addition and 2 subtraction.  This strategy is known as “Fact Families.”

Social Studies:  Our exploration of the Pilgrims experiences as they learned about their new home continues this week.  Last week we learned that one reason they left England was because they were not allowed to worship as they pleased.  We also learned that it took them 66 days to sail to america and many other interesting facts.  As they are learning about the Pilgrims the students are creating a pop up book.  These books will be completed and sent home by the end of the week.
