This week we reviewed all of the letters that we have learned A-V.

Our author of the week was David Shannon. He has written many books that we LOVE to read in class!

On Friday, we attended the Health Fair in Morrissey Hall. The kids had a great time moving from station to station learning about teeth, healthy bodies, and bicycle safety. Each child was able to take home a bag filled with surprises!

Next week we will learn the letter W and complete an author study on Margaret Wise Brown (author of Goodnight Moon).

This week we completed our author study on Mercer Mayer and learned about the letter V. Some of our letter V words included: volcano, van, vest, violin, vase, vacuum, Vincenzo, and Valentine.

Next week we will complete an author study on David Shannon (author of No David! books). We will also work on a letter and number review.

Preschool Newsletter – April 6, 2018

Upcoming events:

    • Cardinal College at 6:30 pm-8:00 pm in the Parish Center
    • Topic: Revive your Parenting! If parents attend, their child get a dress down day! Our speaker comes with a wealth of knowledge regarding raising children.

Looking ahead-

  • Friday, May 11th is our Preschool Art Show from 10:00 am till 11:00 am. Our Preschool Art Show will be located in the Parish Center. Just a reminder for full-day Preschool students this is a half-day. We are excited for this new event for our Preschool program! The children will be showcasing three different works of art and hope to see you there!

This week we started an author study on Norman Bridwell (the author of Clifford books). We read various Clifford books and discussed what an author does.

  • Letter recognition games

Next week we will learn about the letter V and complete an author study on Mercer Mayer (Little Critter books). We will discuss the different characters within the books and various concepts of print.

This week we finished our theme on Easter. We also learned all about the letter U. Our letter U words included: umbrella, underground, underwater, unicorn, umpire, underline, and up.

    • Jamie Strauss will hold a wonderful presentation on “Becoming a Better Parent” on Tuesday, April 10, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Parish Center conference rooms.  Students whose parents attend the presentation will receive a free dress down day pass.

This week in Preschool we focused on the theme, St. Patrick’s day. We created various crafts, read books, and a leprechaun came to visit the classrooms. Students are continuing to review both upper-case and lower-case letters as well as sounds.

  • St. Patrick’s Day bingo

Next week we will learn about Easter and the letter U. Throughout the week we will make Easter eggs, Easter bunnies, watercolor cross, Easter egg hunt, and a letter U activity.

This week we learned about the letter T and discussed our five senses. Our letter t words included: tiger, tree, truck, two, ten, taco, tooth, and Tuesday.

  • Mr. Potato head craft
  • Popcorn & pretzel taste test
  • Five senses smart-board game

Next week we will complete a letter review and discuss the holiday, St. Patrick’s Day. The children will create lots of festive St. Patrick’s day crafts and read various St. Patrick’s day books.

This week we learned all about the letter S.

Our letter S story was called Seal’s Silly Sandwich.

Here are some letter S words that we learned: seal, sandwich, strawberry, soup, socks, scissors, snake, sun, and snack.

We finished up with our theme about the Olympics. All the Preschoolers have been enjoying the fun “Olympic activities!” Many students want to become Olympic athletes in many different sports. Examples: soccer, skiing, bobsledding, ice skating.

This week we learned about the Olympics and our letter of the week was R. We read lots of Olympic books and did a lot of Olympic crafts.

This week centers included:

  • Olympic water color painting
  • Olympic ring painting
  • Letter “R” is for rocket, rhino, and ring
  • “O” is for Olympics with fruit loops
  • Made Olympic torches and Olympic medals

Preschool had our very own Olympics today. We had our opening ceremony parade around the school and had 3 Olympic events.

Next week we will learn all about he letter “S” and continue with our Olympic theme.

Preschool Newsletter – February 16, 2018

Preschool Newsletter – February 16, 2018

This was a busy week for Preschool!!!

Room 105 had Valentine’s Day parties on Monday and Tuesday. The kids had a great time playing bingo, pin the heart on the bee, and passing out their Valentine cards. Thank you to all of our parents for donating supplies and for volunteering at our parties.

On Wednesday, we attended and all school mass for Ash Wednesday.

Rooms 98A & 98B had Valentine’s Day parties on Wednesday. We had a blast decorating heart wreath, playing bingo, and decorating cupcakes!

Next week we will start our unit on the Olympics and our letter of the week will be letter R. Throughout the week we will be discussing the Olympics and making lots of crafts. We will also start our classroom rice bowls for Lent next week.

Looking ahead: Preschool will be having an art show on Friday, May 11th in the Parish Center. The art show will start at 10 am and following the art show full-day students will be dismissed. We will also have light refreshments and hope you enjoy seeing all the art we have created in Preschool!

This week we learned all about the letter O. This week we learned about Arctic animals and how they can survive in the Arctic.

Next week we will learn all about the letter P and our theme will be hibernation. Looking forward to Catholic Schools Week and seeing many Preschool families at our Open House!

This week we learned all about the letter N. 

Our letter N story of the week was called The Nicest Newt. 

Here are some of the letter N words that we learned: nice, newt, noodle, nose, necklace, nest, nap, numbers, November, nine, ninja and newspaper. 

Preschool has friends whose name begins with letter N- Nahla, Nicholas, and Nora. 

Our theme for the week was winter and winter clothing. 

We learned all about the winter season and how to dress during winter. 

We learned that wearing a coat, boots, hat, mittens, and a scarf are all important clothing items to keep us warm during winter.

  • Nest craft
  • Letter N handwriting book
  • Smart-board and computers 
  • Marshmallow counting 1-20
  • Hot chocolate craft

 Next week we will learn the letter O and Arctic/polar animals.

This week we learn the letter M. We also continued our unit on Advent and Christmas. Throughout the week we read various books about Christmas and completed art projects.

Next week we will complete our unit on Christmas and Advent. We will also review letters A-M and practice identifying numbers. On Wednesday the Preschool children earned a PJ day for all their hard work practicing for the Christmas show!
