This Week:

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful kindergarten moms.  We hope you enjoyed your child’s gift to you, the Mother’s Day Tea.  If you haven’t checked out the pictures yet, please do so by clicking HERE!

We had a busy week as we continue to work on reading/writing skills and addition and subtraction skills! As the weather warms up we also try to spend as much time as we can outside! We love seeing children take a simple ball, jump rope or bubbles and turn it into a game! Using their imaginations is wonderful to witness. Kindergarten bodies are meant to move and play! The fresh air and movement is so healthy. Make sure to get outside with your child, the coordination that has developed is amazing! Enjoy this time, it goes by so fast!

Centers This Week:

Next Week:

Our buddy picnic will be on Thursday, May 17th.  You received a note about this on Wednesday.  Please be sure your child brings a special treat to share with his/her buddy.  The 8th grader will bring a blanket and together we will have a fun picnic lunch in the courtyard! We will work on making a special gift for our buddies next week.

Literacy:

  • We will continue to read nonfiction stories about caterpillars and butterflies and add to our list.
  • Daily Journaling
  • Sight Word Review
  • ‘My favorite thing about kindergarten was’ writing assignment.

Math:

  • Addition and subtraction: we will continue to practice so we can reach our goals of fluently adding and subtracting with numbers up to 5 and add and subtract with numbers up to 10 using other strategies like our fingers, pictures, number lines, etc.
  • Money: identifying penny, nickel, dime and quarter and naming the value of each.
  • 3 D shapes: cube, cylinder, sphere, cone; look for these shapes at home.  We are finding them EVERYWHERE we look here at school!!

Science/Religion:

  • Throughout the month of May we will be honoring Mary by saying the Hail Mary each morning.  We also have May Altars in our classroom where we encourage the children to bring in any flowers (after asking their grownups!) for Mary.  We will attend the May Crowning Mass on Tuesday.
  • As we completed our lesson on talking to God in prayer, we move into talking to God in Church. We make our weekly Church visits to talk to God as a class and also quietly in silent, private prayer. Jesus is in Church as He is nowhere else! The best place to talk to God is in Church!
  • The children are just fascinated with our caterpillars. They love watching each day to see if there are any changes. We are making a journal to document any observations. We will continue to add to our chart, listing all the things we are learning about caterpillars and butterflies.
