Kindergarten Newsletter, May 4

Mark your Calendars:

  • Monday, May 7th: Hot Lunch, Pizza
  • Wednesday, May 9th: Hot Lunch, McDonald’s

Check out our kindness project!  Our Kind-er-garden is in full bloom!

This Week:

  • Thank you for attending our Mother’s Day Tea.  The children worked hard to prepare this special morning for you. Pictures to be posted, stay tuned!
  • The St. Cletus National Junior Honor’s Society will be holding a shoe drive starting May 2nd  through May 16th. This drive is for Soles 4 Souls (https://soles4souls.org/our-impact/). The classroom that donates the most shoes will get a pizza party sponsored by NJHS!  More importantly, we will be doing God’s work, helping others!  If your child has any gently used shoes that he/she has outgrown, talk to your child about bringing them to school to share with another needy child. We will collect them in our classrooms.
  • Last call for any scholastic book orders!  Please place any online orders by Wednesday, May 16th.  Our classroom code is H2NGF if it’s your first time placing an online order.

Next Week:

  • Watch for a note to be sent home next week regarding our kindergarten/8th grade buddy picnic which will be on Thursday, May 17th in our school courtyard.

Literacy:

  • Journaling:  writing 2+ sentences, using punctuation, finger spaces, correct spelling of word wall words.  We remind the children to EDIT their writing-go back, re read and fix any errors.
  • Review of our word wall words.
  • Fiction and nonfiction stories about butterflies.

Religion/Science:

  • We are seeing new life all around us!  It’s so fun to go outside and watch as the kids point out signs of spring.  They are everywhere!
  • Our caterpillars have arrived.  We will learn about the caterpillar to butterfly life cycle by exploring nonfiction books next week. God’s plan for new life in the spring is a wonderful thing!
  • Thank you for sending in the granola bars!  We dropped off our last load on Friday.  Our final food pantry donation project will be a kindergarten favorite- peanut butter and/or jelly!  If you have an extra container, have your child bring it in any time in May.  We will drop it off during our Friday church visit.

Math:

  • Addition and subtraction: Fluently add and subtract within 5.  Add and subtract with numbers up to 10.
  • 3d Shapes: cube, cone, cylinder and sphere: look for these shapes at home.
