For the 2008-2009 school year the National Council of Catholic
School’s designated the year as Celebrate Service. Students were invited
to "Celebrate Service" by volunteering in the community or parish. In
response to the challenge, the administration at St. Cletus asked each
grade level to begin a service project. Some grade levels chose to team
up with their buddies to devote time to a service.
Preschool
Preschool is helping the children of Constance Morris House. In the Fall, the students provide warm clothing such as hats, mittens and gloves for children up to age 12.
First and
Fourth Grade
The first and fourth grade work together to collect paper for recycling. Every week, they take turns picking up the boxes of recycled paper from every room. Then, if the weather is good, we take it out to the dumpster in the parking lot. Occasionally, we send our flyers to encourage parents to help with recycling.
Second
Grade
During the 2008-2009 school year, the second grade jumped for St. Jude’s. For the 2009-2010 school year, the students will jump for the American Heart Association. The proceeds will go to purchase gifts and joke books for the Children’s Memorial Cardiac Unit.
Third and
Seventh Grades
Third and seventh grades teamed together sharing their souls to “Share Your Soles”. Twice a year the students collect gently used shoes, clean them, and take them to the “Share Your Soles” warehouse.
Fifth
Grade
Fifth Grade recycles Aluminum Cans. Even though students are not allowed to drink soda in school, there are still enough cans to be recycled as a result of outside events.
Sixth
Grade
Every month the 6th grade lets the rest of the school know what food types will be collected. The sixth grade then takes all the collected food to the rectory at the end of each month.
Eighth
Grade
The 8th graders at St. Cletus, are concerned with the global economy and
the need to help on a local level. As a parish and school community they
participate yearly in the collection and distribution of Christmas Food
Baskets. Families who are in need submit their names through the church
and request, if possible, a basket of food to assist them in these
trying times. Food items are then collected through the school and
brought in by grade level. The eighth grade organizes, collects, and
coordinates their gathering. Mrs. Mary Beth Ford oversees the
dispersement of these baskets. Students are aware of the overwhelming
need and the generosity is evident as the school lobby overflows with
numerous items. Monetary gifts are also contributed by the students and
their families. The students realize that they not only make a
difference in a family’s life, but add Christmas joy as well.
