Children's Choir
October 10, 2007
Thank you for allowing your children to help me celebrate my birthday last
week! The children have been doing a wonderful job in rehearsal. Ask your child
to tell you “the marshmallow story”, to sing one of our vocal warm-ups like the
“alphabet warm-up” to you, or to share how we learned the feel of 6/8 meter for
our song “Lord, We Are Your People” using bouncing balls. Below is information
about our Mass on Sunday and the Choral Festival as well as upcoming dates in
October and November.
Musically Yours,
Mrs. Gibbons

Our First Mass – Sunday, October 14th
Our first Mass is Sunday, October 14th at the 11:00am Mass. We will meet in the
music room at 10:30am for warm-ups and to run a few pieces. Our special songs
for this Mass are “Lord, We Are Your People” and spiritual “Plenty Good Room”.
If your child is not with our group by the time we head to church, he/she will
not be allowed to perform that day. After Mass, ALL choristers return to the
music room (7th/8th grade doors) for pickup by a parent.
Proper Dress for Mass
Boys: khakis or dress pants, button-up shirts or polos, ties (for holiday
masses)
Girls: dresses, blouses, knee-length or longer skirts, khaki pants
No gym shoes or jeans.
Choral Festival
This year we have seven choristers attending the SW Choristers Guild Choral
Festival on Saturday, November 3rd. If your child is attending, your child will
receive their music and a CD with any recordings I have so that they can
practice before the event.
Special practices for the event will occur during choir times on Wednesday,
October 31st from 4:00-4:45pm for Sr. Choir members going to the festival and
Thursday, November 1st from 5:00-5:45pm for Jr. Choir members. Any chorister who
wants to learn a piece of new music for fun is also invited, but not obligated
to attend practice that week. Within the next week, I will be contacting parents
about the festival about the particulars of the event and carpools.
