Thankful for Family and Friends
This month our children are lighting the way as we focus on being thankful for
family and friends. Our God has blessed us with family and friends who love
us. Many of us will share a meal with family and friends this Thanksgiving
just as the pilgrims did so many years ago. Let us give thanks to God for all
the blessings we share especially your children. May your Thanksgiving Holiday
be filled with bountiful joy and happiness.
8th grade and 7th grade—Kudos
Congratulations to our 8th grade football players and our 8th grade
cheerleaders. I received notes about both boys and girls. The boys for working
as a team and modeling good sportsmanship to name a few. And, the girls for
their polite behavior and good manners.
Golden Apple Nominations
The Golden Apple Foundation is looking for nominations of outstanding teachers
in Grades 4-8. If you are interested in nominating a full-time classroom
teacher who spends the majority of their time in grades 4-8, nomination cards
are available in the school office.
Learning Support Program/ Counseling Support Services
The Archdiocesan Center for Inclusive Education located at St. Bede the
Venerable School is providing a Fall Learning Support Program for students in
our schools. Reading, math, comprehension, and writing classes are provided
for a fee. Speech and Language Support as well as social skills, an ADHD
support group and parent education group are also available. Packets of
information are available in our school office. Registration is on a first
come first served basis.
Make a Difference Day
Thank you to all families who participated in Make a Difference Day. We were
able to serve the elderly of our parish by helping to do some outside chores.
Thanks to Jim Krecek and our School Board for organizing this worthwhile
event.
Martinelli’s Fall Uniform Sale
A fall uniform sale is in progress until November 30th. Please call
Martinelli’s for further information. 708-425-6287
MRSA
A letter was sent home on Monday to all our students regarding MRSA. The
important things that everyone can do are centered around general cleanliness.
We are taking extra precautions in school to keep things sanitized. Debbie
Lestarczyk along with our maintenance crew continue to go the extra mile in
sanitization. Please go over with your children the good hygiene guidelines
that were provided in Monday’s correspondence. If for some reason, you did not
receive this letter, please contact the school office and we will send home
another copy.
Parent & Me Activity
We have one more Parent & Me Activity scheduled for November 13th. Infants to
3 years of age and their parent or parents are invited to attend. Please
invite a neighbor or friend to join us @ 9:30am in the school library. Thank
you to Laurie Severino, Jeanne Sommerfeld and our School Board Marketing
Committee for sponsoring this fun event.
Parent-Teacher Conference
All families should have received their Parent/ Teacher conference schedule
last Wednesday. Please contact the office if further information is needed.
Remember all 5th –8th grade students must attend their conference.
Positive Coaching Alliance
Our coaching staff attended a Positive Coaching Alliance seminar last week.
Katie Frisbie and I attended a seminar in August for Athletic Directors and
Principals. We will also hold a workshop for parents in the months to follow.
Another coaches workshop will follow for those new to coaching at St. Cletus
or were unable to attend last week. Positive Coaching teaches kid friendly
criticism, good sportsmanship, how to avoid non-teachable moments and create
optimum learning for all athletes. Our area Catholic Schools along with St.
Cletus are adopting this program. Thanks to the Athletic Association for
helping us to fund this worthwhile program. For more information go to
www.positivecoach.org.
Red Ribbon Week
Thank you to our Student Council for providing very worthwhile Red Ribbon Week
activities. This was our best week yet to turn our back on drugs.
Second Step Program and Peer Mediation
Our teachers are currently being trained in the Second Step Program. We hope
to have everyone begin within the next month with this social skills program.
Teachers make use of role playing, modeling, behavior reinforcement and class
discussions through the program curriculum.
Peer Mediation is both a program and a process. Older students assist in
resolving disputes between two people or a small group with trained adult
guidance and supervision. This process has proven effective in many schools.
Speech Contest
Thank you to Gina McAndrew and all the students who participated in the speech
contest at Fenwick. Gina did a superb job in preparing our students.
Congratulations to Jimmy Krecek (3rd place) and 5th place to Sabrina Pusatera,
Kathleen Lawler, and Katie Kages.
