3 Year-Old Presentation
In many Latin American countries, particularly Mexico, a cherished tradition is the Presentación, or presentation of a child, in the church at the age of three. This custom, which dates back centuries, was born out of the high infant mortality rates of the past. It was believed that by three years old, the child had surpassed the most vulnerable period of their life.
The Presentación has its roots in the biblical account of the presentation of Jesus Christ in the Temple. This beautiful tradition is an expression of gratitude to God and the Virgin Mary for the precious gift of life. It also symbolizes a renewed commitment to dedicate the child's life to God.
For families who have not yet baptized their child, the Tres Años blessing is a meaningful way to embark on the journey towards this sacrament. Although a Presentación is not a substitute for Baptism, it is a special moment where the child is presented to God and the Church, and both the child and parents receive a blessing.
